11.17.10: Sultan Ali picked us up in Petworth driving a late-model Lincoln Continental sedan that was radio-dispatched by Diamond Cab of DC. He took the the most efficient route possible and dropped my sister and I off at 18th and Columbia Road NW. He shared life-lessons, a personal tale of revenge, a recommended diet (and a book to support it: Eat to Live by Elijah Muhammad) and a hypothesis to explain the West’s fascination with Steak Tartare and fur coats.
It was his birthday, Mr. Ali was celebrating 67 years on the planet.
