Protestor or Provacateur

Interesting article from a Twin Cities blogger about the protests at the RNC. He raises a point worth noting:
Seriously, who are these people? I mean the person breaking that store window and the person or persons who smashed the windows of that police car: who are they? Are they protestors? Are they idiots just pretending to be anarchists, but whose actual agenda is to get their rocks off on breaking things? [or] Are they agents provocateurs, sent in undercover to do something bad and give authorities a reason to gas everybody else?
Think about it. Remember this post from last summer about undercovers trying to start a riot at the NAFTA protests? That’s exactly what was going on. Agents Provocateurs sent by the Police to instigate a riot. I know I tend to rail on the black bandanna anarchistas that have become stereotypical of the extreme left since Seattle in ‘99, but really they might just all be undercover cops or some sort of embedded counter ops.
I think what is important here is that revolutionary people of consciousness in the movement (I can hear you laughing BTW) speak out against this senseless smash-and-destroy style of protest along with its black bandanna anonymity. Because the more we encourage or tolerate it, the easier we are making it for agents of the police state to instigate their heavy handed response.

Could be… definitely a good question. Violence is never the way to go, particularly when protesting something.
Regardless of whether or not these guys are genuine “activists”, I think the fact that anarchists (or “anarchists”) are protesting a convention thrown by the party that supposedly stands for a small government footprint says a lot about what the GOP has grown into.
No Revolution has ever been started without a few broken windows.
