Dear DC Hip Hop, I apologize for setting the precedent that Chief Ike’s was a venue you would want to do business with.

This is from my peoples who started a new Thursday night hip hop weekly there:

Society Thursdays is taking a brief leave of absence while we find a new club to hold us down. We ended up having some serious artistic differences with the people at Chief Ike’s. At first we contemplated calling for an all-out DC hip-hop community boycott of Chief Ike’s because of the bullshit way that they treat people, but then we decided against it. Why? Because Society Thursdays doesn’t have time for all that petty nonsense. We’re focused on giving y’all dope hip-hop to dance to, and we won’t let ourselves be distracted by the ugly, petty, hating-ass antics of Chief Ike’s. Really, we have more self-respect than that.

Thanks to all of y’all that have been coming out every week and supporting Society. We’ll back to doing our thing soon. Stay tuned. (If anyone knows of any clubs that might be interested in hosting a fly-ass weekly hip-hop night, let us know).

Chief Ike’s has the most uncomfortable chairs in God’s creation, of course they don’t treat people right, the chairs are an automatic give away.

the bar manager is just an asshole. i don’t think he would even disagree with that statement because…he just is. let us know about the new venue.

i got nothing but love for Society Thursdays and their quest for a true hip hop venue. chief ike’s don’t know hip hop. movin’ on.

  4. I was on Columbia Road screaming in the rain in May 2005 talking bout fuck chief ikes…
the place is a dump – rats and roaches, the kitchen is disgusting, and the bar managers got attitude. i hope it gets condemned and they put a yoga studio and a housewares store in to replace it.

    Doing a fly-ass party at a wackass venue=wackass party…
Hip-Hop is better off not being done in some dingy, two-bit,
smelly, ugly whole in the wall who’s normal clientele are
people who don’t care about quality…
    My 2 cents…

  6. Chief Ike’s is getting thrown under the bus right about now. We did 3 events their and didn’t have to many problems besides the fact that the sound is horrible and it’s a really crusty joint.

you can only get thrown under the bus if you ain’t lookin’. chief ike’s is where it is because that’s how they have chosen to do. the rest of can choose to, and we choose elsewhere.
